VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Help Homeless Families
One- , Two- or Three - Hour Tasks, Once or Twice a Year
The loss of a home is a crisis for anyone,
but especially for families. This is the saddest statistic of all -
one out of every four homeless people is a child. the loss of a job,
an increase in rent, the onset of sudden illness, the absence of family
support - any one of these can drive a family into homelessness.
The Mon Valley YMCA is partnering with local churches through a national
program helping homeless families stay together while they work through
the system to get back on their feet. But volunteers are needed to make
it work.

FAMILY LOCKER ROOMS
A special locker room where moms, dads or grandparents can take their
little ones after swimming, or for couples with special needs who might
need the assistance of a spouse.
MASSAGE AND AROMA THERAPY ROOM
A soothing environment to help you relax and unwind from daily stresses.
But all progress is not without its downside. It takes
a few visits to learn your way around. The adventure is well worth the
trip.
DR. DENNIS P. TIHANSKY WEIGHT ROOM
Our largest single contributor has been a philanthropist all his life.
Personally dedicated to the concept of fitness as medicine, Dr. Tihansky
requested that his donation be used to purchase new strength equipment
for the weight room.

FACILITY UPDATE:
Scheduled to open January 2004, your new Mon Valley
YMCA Wellness Center will simply amaze you at first sight. Quality was
the bottom line when it came to equipping the facility.
Pure vulcanized rubber flooring from Mondo, the leader
in athletic flooring is both incredibly durable and incredibly beautiful.
Strength machines from TECHNOGYM, STRIVE AND NAUTILUS have the best
biomechanics of any machines I’ve ever used. They all feature
converging/diverging movement and allow for unilateral independent limb
movement.
Simply stated, with the same effort your expending right now, you will
get a measurably more effective workout. New free weight equipment from
FREE MOTION incorporates extremely well thought out design with a breathtaking
“neo-industrial” stainless steel look.
In addition to most of our current cardio equipment
we are adding 20 new pieces from MATRIX (more treadmills, more ellipticals!),
2 ARC TRAINERS from CYBEX (to “burn” those buns) and another
STAIRMASTER.
A bank of six 36” TV’s should help get you
through your cardio workout. Plug your headset into your cardio machine
and select the TV you want to hear. After your workout relax in your
spacious lounge that overlooks the workout floor. You’ll be proud
to say you’re a member here and your results will speak for themselves.
