Swimmers may choose their daily

Work hard and earn ribbons, trophies and even a chance to compete with the best swimmers in the state at Penn State University.

We're not all work, work, work. Join in on the fun too. The team holds a Christmas party, an award banquet and an annual sleepover.

In the Mon Valley YMCA competitive swimming program...

*Each swimmer receives equal attention
*Work is on basic skills and good physical   fitness habits
*Emphasis is placed on fair play and winning is   kept in perspective
*Swimmers are helped to set and evaluate   individual goals
*Work is with the whole person:

                 SPIRIT * MIND * BODY

SPIRIT We emphasize the team concept, the values of hard work for individual improvement, the values of fair play, the respect of one's self, one's teammates, one's competitors and the rules and officials under which we swim.

MIND We will work on the positive attitude necessary to enter competition. Individual and team goals will be set and evaluated. We strive for an improved self-image.

BODY We will work with swimmers at all skill levels, to help them achieve the health fitness level necessary for competition. We will work on the importance of fitness habits, such as proper warm-up, conditioning exercises, good nutrition, rest and physical self-awareness.
