Frequently Asked Questions
*What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing designed for exercise and athletic shoes. Avoid
pants with belt buckles, clothing with decorative studs, dress shoes.
Temperature in the Wellness Center can fluctuate depending on the activity
level so it's advisable to wear layers.
*How will I know what to do when I start?
A free orientation and exercise program designed by a staff person is
included with your membership. Speak with a staff person or call to
schedule an appointment.
*Do you have Personal Training?
Yes. You must arrange a schedule that accommodates you and the staff
trainer. Payments are made in the Business Office.
*Am I too old to strength train?
No one is too old to strength train. As we age, we lose muscle and bone
density. Strength training can help reverse this. Older adults may have
more to gain from strength training than younger people.
*I just want to tone up but I'm afraid of getting
muscles like a bodybuilder. Will that happen?
It's no more likely than you becoming a world champion runner by jogging
three times a week. There are different methods of training to accomplish
different goals. Putting on mass or muscularity doesn't happen by accident.
It requires intent With that in mind, don't let unfounded fears prevent
you from getting the most from your exercise program.
*I see there are towels and spray bottles in the
Wellness Center. What are they for?
The bottles contain a disinfectant cleaner. The towels are primarily
to wipe perspiration from machines when you finish using them. We do,
however, recommend that you bring your own towel, especially if you
perspire easily.
*I can't always get on a machine that I'm waiting
to use. What do I do?
If it's a cardio machine, we have sign-up sheets and 30 minute time
limits. If the sign-ups or time limits are being ignored, please tell
a staff person. If it's a strength machine you're waiting for, it is
considered normal and proper to ask if "you may work in".
The user should show courtesy and allow you to use the machine while
they rest. You could also view it as an opportunity to learn a new exercise
Ask a staff person to teach you a different exercise to substitute for
the one you're waiting for. As with all fitness centers, peak usage
is from about 4:00-8:00 p.m. If you exercise at that time, being versatile
with your program can help make your visit enjoyable and productive.
*Sometimes I don't like the music that's playing
in the Wellness Center. Can a staff person change the music for me?
If a staff person changes the music for one individual, we are obligated
to change it for everyone that asks. If the music becomes a personal
issue we suggest a Walkman or other personal listening devise.
